WS falls to HMS, 4-1

West Sioux’s baseball squad fought hard but fell to Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, 4-1, in Hartley June 19 in a War Eagle Conference baseball game.

The Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the first inning but did not score again. They had five hits. West Sioux’s record was 5-7 overall after the loss.

Jake Lynott led the way with a 3-for-3 hitting contest.

Porter Hummel was 1-for-3 with one run scored and hit a triple.

Jordan Monsma was 1-for-3.

Justin Stoltenburg took the loss pitching as he pitched for one and two-thirds innings. He gave up four hits and four walks. Tucker Vander Feen pitched four and two-thirds innings and surrendered four hits, no walks and struck out two.

Falcons beat MMC-RU

West Sioux gained its sixth win of the season with a 9-0 shutout of Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn-Remsen-Union June 20.

Upcoming games

The Falcons are at Hinton June 30 in War Eagle Conference play and at Central Lyon in Rock Rapids in non league play July 1. West Sioux will host Harris-Lake Park July 2. Games begin with the junior varsity contest at 6 p.m.
