As of press time Monday, the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation continue to investigate and gather information on the violent deaths of Donald Neunaber and his wife, Esther, at their farm house in rural Akron.
According to a July 18 sheriff’s report, the Iowa Medical Examiner’s Office has officially determined Esther’s death to be homicide. The final result of Donald’s autopsy has yet to be determined. Toxicology testing and additional processing is being done.
Their son, Jonathan Donald Neunaber, 44, is still being held as a material witness in the Plymouth County Jail. The material witness warrant, under which he was arrested, has no bond set. He has not been charged with a criminal offense.
The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office transported the vehicle Jonathan was driving when arrested in La Crosse, Wis., to the DCI Crime Unit lab in Des Moines for processing July 17 and then to Plymouth County where it is being held.
