This year, 2024, marks an incredible milestone in Heyl Truck Lines’ history as the company proudly celebrates its 75th anniversary.

Colleen Joyce Barwick, 96, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Monday, June 10, 2024, at the Akron Care Center in Akron, Iowa.

A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.

Donald Allaway Jr, 72 of Akron, Iowa, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2024, at his home in Akron surrounded by his family.

Memorial Service will be 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron with Pastor Susan Juilfs officiating. Visitation with the family present will begin at 4:00 p.m. and continue until the service time on Thursday at the funeral home. 

The month of May in Akron was wetter than normal. According to one resident, their monthly thermometer showed 6.2” for the month. The average rainfall in Akron for May is 5”.

In Iowa, generally the driest month is January and the wettest month is June according to a weather site.

Six Akron-Westfield golfers made the 2024 War Eagle All Conference golf team.

For the boys, Carter Wilken, Jackson Marnach, and Jackson Neubrand all made the First Team. The team finished first in the conference with a record of 19-1 and finished second at the state tournament.
