Ian Blowe gets 100th win!

Akron-Westfield senior wrestler Ian Blowe achieved a milestone at the Sgt. Bluff wrestling tournament Dec. 2 by achieving his 100th win. One hundred wins is a benchmark of excellence in high school wrestling. Ian wrestled at 190 and was runner-up at the tournament.

AWHS Dance Team receives awards at state competition

Entering its 48th year, Iowa hosts the largest state high school dance competition in the nation with 250+ high school teams and a total of more than 5,000 dancers performing more than 600 routines throughout the three-day competition.

When Allison Palmer was in grade school, she enjoyed swimming.

However, with fewer opportunities to swim competitively as she got older, Palmer hopped out of the pool. But this year — after about five years away from the sport — Palmer took advantage of a chance to compete again.

Work begins on A-W football field

Work on the Akron-Westfield football field began shortly after the last home game Oct. 13. All the bleachers, old track, and grandstand have been removed to make way for the new 8-lane track which will be built along with a new grandstand area with new bleachers and a new press box. A capital campaign to pay for the restrooms, concessions, and storage facility which are wanted, will be underway soon by the A-W Athletic Booster Club.
