• Akron-Westfield school board elects officers: President Nick Schoenfelder and Vice-President Cory Tucker. They were sworn in along with Business Manager Mandy McCully.

• Akron Care Center audit reveals it’s strong financially.

The Plymouth County Board of Supervisors met in Courthouse Boardroom on January 2, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. All members were present. All votes following are a roll call vote of an aye per each board member, unless otherwise indicated. Board Chairman Don Kass called the meeting to order and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Motion by Horton, seconded by Anderson, to adjourn the 2023 Board of Supervisors session and to organize for 2024. Motion Carried.

It wasn’t pretty, but a win is a win.

The Akron-Westfield girls’ basketball team will take an ugly W over a tough loss any day of the week.

In their first game in two weeks, the Westerners built a double-digit lead at home against MMCRU en route to a 43-33 victory on Jan. 16.

Akron-Westfield is on a roll, picking up wins in five of their last six contests. They are now 6-3 overall.

Trainer plays integral role in helping Michigan football team win national title

When Phil Johnson moved to Ann Arbor, Mich., in 2000, he was eager to make a difference.

As a trainer for multiple sports at the University of Michigan, Johnson was in charge of getting the athletes healthy and ready to compete.

‘Jersey Boys’ coming in April!

The Akron Opera House Board of Directors has announced “Jersey Boys” will be the 2024 spring musical. Performance dates are April 11-14. Watch Facebook and www.AkronOperaHouse.org for audition and ticket sales information soon. 

The Akron-Westfield Educational Excellence Foundation (AWEEF) will be honoring charter members and donors at halftime of the girls’ basketball game Jan. 26.

Akron Opera House announced the dates for the 2024 children’s theater production of “King Arthur’s Quest” presented by Missoula Children’s Theatre. Performances are  March 2 at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

During the recent winter storms last Thursday-Sunday, over a foot of snow or more fell around Akron and it was brutal. Along with the below zero temperatures and the high wind chills of -30+, it was almost impossible to get out or want to go out.

Even though it's kind of pretty, the snow caused much havoc on everone in the area. As a matter of fact, most of the country was hit with horrible weather. Mother Nature must have been pretty angry!
