Bins being removed in Westfield

If you have driven through Westfield on Highway 12, you probably noticed that grain bins are being removed along the railroad tracks in that location.

The bins are owned by Ken Less. It is estimated that the bins are probably over 50 years old. He no longer had a use for them.

2025 ALL-CLASS REUNION PLANNING IS UNDERWAY

The second planning meeting for the Akron/Akron-Westfield  All-Class Reunion will be held at the Akron Library meeting room at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2024. Many items were put on the schedule for the June 27, 28, 2025 reunion but more ideas and volunteers are still needed. If you are interested in assisting in any way, you are most welcome to join in these planning sessions.

 Real estate & mobile home taxes are due

Plymouth County Treasurer, Shelly Sitzmann, reminds property owners that Property taxes are now due. Real Estate and Mobile Home taxes can be paid in the office, online, or through the mail. Taxes must be paid by April 1, as March 31 falls on the weekend and you have one extra day. Taxes are delinquent April 2, 2024, and will incur a penalty.

A-W FFA performs well at Sub District and District conventions

Four projects advance to state

Akron-Westfield FFA did very well at both the Sub District Convention which was held Feb. 20 at River Valley high school and at Districts held March 2 at MOC-Floyd Valley.

Children’s play has successful run

The Missoula Children’s Theatre production of “King Arthur’s Quest” at the Akron Opera House had two successful performances March 2. The 50 plus cast members had a busy week getting ready for the production but had a great time during performances.  Sponsors of the children’s production were the City of Akron, Mike’s Inc., Peoples Bank, and Akron Friendship & Service Club. Benefit scheduled for family who lost home in fire

A benefit Fish Fry, sponsored by the Ellendale Parish Family, for the Scott and Pam Hoefling family is scheduled for Friday, March 15, 5- 7 p.m .at St. Joseph’s Ellendale, 23533 K-22, Merrill. The Hoefling family tragically lost their home and belongings in a fire. The benefit is a free will offering. Everyone is invited to come support the Hoefling family in their time of need.

First Adult Prom held

The first Adult Prom was held March 2 at the Akron Golf Club. Many couples enjoyed reliving their Prom. Some were all decked out in Prom wear. The theme for the evening was “Under the Sea,” with decorations and lighting depicting the theme. The committee hopes to have this as an annual event with more and more people enjoying Prom. In the photo (l-r) Mitch DeRocher, Traci DeRocher, Jordan Bittinger, and Heath Lee enjoyed the evening.

Individual speech students make state

All 13 individual Akron-Westfield speech students qualified for state which will be March 9 at Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll. All entries received a I rating at districts Feb. 24 at MOC-Floyd Valley in Orange CIty to advance.
