Eight A-W students vying for Plymouth County Fair king and queen

Akron-Westfield will be well represented in the Plymouth County Fair Royalty. There are three of the four king candidates and five of the 13 queen candidates representing local 4-H or Akron-Westfield FFA. The king and queen crowning will take place Wednesday, July 24 at 7 p.m. in Pioneer Village at the fairgrounds.

Allison Nixa receives merit-based scholarship

Akron-Westfield graduate Allison Nixa was one of 21 students to receive a merit-based scholarship for the 2024-2025 academic year from the The Tower Family Foundation.

A new nonprofit organization has been formed to build on strong momentum that is underway in the Akron and Westfield communities.

Restoration is under way after historical flooding in Akron. The road past “River Sioux” as well as the road west of Hawarden is open to our South Dakota residents. Many of our Akron businesses are still a work in progress.

Emily Miller, who serves as the sponsor of Akron’s National Honor Society, is a dedicated teacher at Ak ron-We st f ield High School and also manages the Akron City Pool. NHS students Addi Naslund and Kelsey Saathoff played a crucial role in coordinating a relief drive to support individuals and families who have been impacted by the recent flood.

The Akron Post Office encountered many issues derived from the recent flooding. Between the 20th and the 22nd of June, the region experienced heavy downpours, leading to widespread flooding across Lyon, Sioux, O’Brien, Clay, and Plymouth counties.

WITCC President’s and Dean’s List

Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC), Sioux City, is pleased to announce the President’s List and Dean’s List for the 2024 spring semester. 

The President’s List is full-time students who achieved a 4.0 grade point average. The Dean’s List is full-time students who achieved a 3.5-3.99 grade point average.
