Clayton Jacobson, 73

Clayton L. Jacobson of Alcester, SD, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden, Iowa.

Memorial Service will be at noon, Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Visitation with the family present will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will continue until the service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be expressed to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.

Marjorie E. Dykstra, 87

Marjorie Ellen (Kreykes) Dykstra of Sibley (formerly of Akron and Sheldon) passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Sibley Specialty Care. Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Andringa Funeral Home in Sheldon with Rev. Brian Dunn, officiating.

Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.

Visitation with family present will be from 10 a.m. until service time at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Punch Needle at Akron Library

The Akron Public Library hosted its monthly Art Club Feb. 21. On this day, participants worked on a Punch Needle project. Punch needle is a form of embroidery and is related to rug hooking. Using a punch tool, which uses a needle, students “punched” out colorful creations. Since this was a more advanced project, attendees needed to be at least ten years old.

 

Akron Library gets new shelving

The Akron Public Library is getting refreshed inside. Much new shelving was installed which came from an anonymous donor and some from a grant. There’s a new lay-out as the shelves have been rearranged for a better flow.

The planning committee for the 2025 All-Class Akron/Akron-Westfield Reunion met Feb. 21 and set the date of the reunion for June 27 and 28, 2025.

Legion hosts Pancake Feed for baseball team

Albert E. Hoschler Post No. 186 of The American Legion hosted a  Pancake Feed Feb. 24 at the Akron Legion Hall to raise funds for its Junior League baseball team. 

For $10 all you can eat pancakes were served along with eggs, sausage, and drink. Coaches, team members, parents, and friends all helped with the successful feed.

Individual speech students make state

All 13 individual Akron-Westfield speech students qualified for state which will be March 9 at Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll. All entries received a I rating at districts Feb. 24 at MOC-Floyd Valley in Orange CIty to advance.

A-W graduate sent to Gaza by United Nations

Scott Anderson, a 1985 graduate of Akron-Westfield and son of Rick and Marlys Anderson of Akron, was sent to Gaza by the United Nations to get needed supplies into Gaza as people try to find food or bathroom facilities.
