The Akron-Westfield JV boys wrestling team took part in the Le Mars Tournament on Jan. 19 and had an impressive showing. Jayden Beyer and Thomas Brown both finished second in their weight class while Wyatt Dumas and Aken Marieu both took home third place honors.
The Akron-Westfield girls basketball team is continuing to improve as the season moves along. On Jan. 16, the Westerners picked up their seventh win of the season as they beat Alcester-Hudson on the road 30-16.
Students in an Akron-Westfield anatomy class recently participated in a hands-on, and not to mention tasty, experiment. The students constructed muscle fiber models out of candy like Fruit by the Foot, Fruit Roll-Ups, and licorice laces.
The Akron Care Center (ACC) Board of Directors held a special meeting on Jan. 9 to discuss continuing to work with Generations Senior Management. Generations provides market analysis and coaching for small rural nursing homes.
The Akron-Westfield School District has been auctioning older signs that were once used in the district’s facilities. The A-W School Board authorized selling these signs to the highest bidder in an open bid process.
The Akron-Westfield (A-W) School Board held two meetings on Dec. 6. The first meeting at 6:30 p.m. was the final meeting for the retiring board members, followed by an organizational board meeting and elections at 7:06 p.m.
It’s been a historic season for the A-W girls wrestling program and on Jan. 9 they added another piece to the record book. This season is the first for A-W girls program on the mat and they walked into the gym on Jan. 9 to host their first ever tournament in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.
The Akron-Westfield boys basketball team knew when the holiday break was over, they had better be ready to shake off the rust quickly. The Westerners had road games against Hinton and South O’Brien in a four-day span; those two teams were a combined a 12-3 on the season heading into the 2025 portion of the season.
The A-W girls basketball team knew what they were up against and the challenge in front of them. Hinton came into the match-up with Akron-Westfield on Jan. 7 undefeated and ranked fourth in the state in Class 2A.
