Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron is amplifying its commitment to the community with two significant initiatives aimed at supporting our residents and fostering spiritual growth among the youth.

Elementary Holiday Concert Nov. 29

The Akron-Westfield Discovergarten through fourth grade performed their Holiday Concert Nov. 29 in the elementary gym. Director was Kyle Schroeder and accompanist was Kathy Johnson.

Beth Finzen celebrates 98 years

Elizabeth (Beth) Finzen will be turning 98 years old Dec. 23. She was born on

December 23, 1925. Now, she lives at the Akron Care Center in Akron. 

Holiday Receipt Rebate winners

Congratulations to the winners of the first round of Akron Area Chamber of Commerce’s Holiday Receipt Rebate Drawing. A total of $500 Chamber Bucks were awarded. Winners were drawn Dec. 6 and could receive up to $50 in Chamber Bucks depending on the amount of their receipt. Winners can pick up winning Chamber Bucks at Security National Bank.

         The museum recently acquired a book titled History of Plymouth County with a  copyright of 1917.  One article by C.M. Hilliker of Akron tells of his arrival from Eastern Iowa in November of 1871, to wit:

Activities enjoyed by many at Hometown Christmas

The weather was delightful and the activities were plenty Nov. 29 as many came to partake in the Hometown Christmas activities in Akron. The popular event is sponsored by The Akron Area Chamber of Commerce.

Hallelujah! Community Christmas program rings in the season

The 52nd annual Akron Area Community Christmas program was held Dec. 3 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. Many churches participated in the program sharing music. Prior to the start of the program, a brass prelude was provided by the Birdie and Carol Harris School of Performing Arts with Kevin Linder as director.

Care Center board holds discussion on assisted living project

The Akron Care Center board held a special meeting Nov. 28 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home to discuss the assisted living project. Since an action item was not on the agenda, the board could not take official action but just have a discussion.

Last Tuesday voters took to the poles to decide a wide variety of important elected positions in the area. While the totals have not been officially declared, we do have the preliminary numbers which will give us a good idea of how various candidates did.

Board of Supervisors edits turbine policy

On October 24, the Plymouth County Board of Supervisors approved a new revision for the county’s zoning ordinance.

The new ordinance will require that a setback equal to three and a half time the apex of wind turbines within the county. While early attempt to install solar and wind plants is still going on, the board wants to make the setback for a tower between 550 and 600 feet and make the setback, 1925 and 2100 feet setback
