A-W alumni begin next chapter

 

Four Akron-Westfield alums who just finished playing for the Westerners are off to college to continue their academic and athletic careers.

A-W volleyball splits first two matches

 The Akron-Westfield volleyball team opened the 2025 season with a pair of matches at Hills-Beaver Creek on August 26.

“It is good to have the first two matches under our belt, so it gave us specific things to focus on in practice,” said head coach Nicolle DeRocher. “We will be more prepared for our next matches.”

A-W athletics giving players, fans the latest technology

 

 

It wasn’t that long ago that the only way to see a high school sporting event was in person. But thanks to technology and a forward-thinking group of students from the University of Nebraska, Akron-Westfield fans can watch the Westerners play live and on demand from nearly anywhere, thanks to Hudl.

The Akron-Westfield (A-W) Youth Wrestling Club continues to help the current and future stars on the mat as they work to improve. The club held a free private camp at A-W School on Aug. 14 and 15, which was open to wrestlers from kindergarten through 12 grade.

The Akron-Westfield softball team had a tremendous season on the field and in the classroom, which led to many post-season awards. The Westerners finished the year with a 20-4 overall record and won the War Eagle Conference with a 9-0 record.

Nicolle DeRocher to lead A-W volleyball
The Akron-Westfield volleyball will look a lot different than it did the past few seasons. The Westerners not only graduated eight seniors, but head coach Robyn Van Eldik retired as well. Not an easy spot for a coach to walk into, but Nicolle DeRocher is not a stranger to the program, the players, and the expectations, as she takes over as head coach.
Will Hartman earns All-State selection
Akron-Westfield junior Will Hartman has been named to the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association 2025 All-State Team.

The 2025 fall sports season is rapidly approaching with football, volleyball, and cross country set to begin games and meets the last week of August.
Tindall inducted into IGHSAU Hall of Fame
Kayla Tindall, one of the most dominant pitchers to ever step in the circle for Akron-Westfield, is now in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) Softball Hall of Fame. Tindall, along with three others, were officially inducted on July 24, 2025, at the Harlan Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge.
Hartman named to all district baseball team
Akron-Westfield junior Will Hartman was named a first team all-district selection for Northwest Iowa, and along with five teammates also earned all-conference honors, for the 2025 season.
A-W softball shines on the diamond
The 2025 Akron-Westfield softball team proved once again they are one of the top programs in the state, as first year head coach Rachel Harris continued the Westerners’ winning ways.

A-W baseball falls to Hinton

The Akron-Westfield (A-W) baseball team held the Hinton offense down for most of their game against the Blackhawks on Jun 23 at Sargent Field, but one big inning was the difference as the Westerners lost 5-2.
