Five A-W students recipients of War Eagle top 5%

Five Akron-Westfield juniors and seniors were recipients of the 2024 War Eagle Conference top 5% of their class academically and were honored at a recent banquet: seniors Ashton McCully and Audrey Miller and juniors Daynen McKee, Campbell Anderson, and Josie Jacobs.

Legion baseball opens season

The weather was a little windy, but nice, for an afternoon of baseball March 10 at Sargent Field in Akron. The Akron-Westfield American Legion baseball team opened its season facing Le Mars in a double header. The first pitch was thrown out by Hoschler Post Commander Stan Rolfes.

All Conference honors

Three Akron-Westfield girls basketball players have been named  All-Conference: Mackenzie Hughes, first team, Josie Jacobs, second team, and Allie Swoyer, honorable mention. A-W finished fourth in the War Eagle Conference with a 7-3 record.

 It was an all-around great season for Akron-Westfield boys’ wrestling — both as a team and individually.

Kamdyn Guthridge places fourth at Peewee state tournament

Akron-Westfield youth wrestler Kamdyn Guthridge placed fourth at the recent Super Peewee State Tournament.

Kamdyn was in a 32 man bracket and lost his first round but  battled back and won his next five matches to earn his place on the podium. 

Legion hosts Pancake Feed for baseball team

Albert E. Hoschler Post No. 186 of The American Legion hosted a  Pancake Feed Feb. 24 at the Akron Legion Hall to raise funds for its Junior League baseball team. 

For $10 all you can eat pancakes were served along with eggs, sausage, and drink. Coaches, team members, parents, and friends all helped with the successful feed.

Cole St. Pierre places 7th at youth state wrestling

Cole St. Pierre of Akron placed seventh at the 2024 Iowa AAU State Wrestling Tournament in his division Feb. 24 and 25 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. A-W youth wrestlers Joshua Webb and Carter Utesch also wrestled at the state tournament but did not place.
