Thomas Clarey, 73

Thomas (Tom) Harvey Clarey, 73, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, April 26, 2025, peacefully at home with his wife by his side, following a long-term illness.
Visitation with the family present will be held on May 23rd from 4 to 6 pm, Vigil Service and Rosary to follow at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.

Legion plans for Avenue of Flags program

Each year at the Memorial Day program, the Albert E. Hoschler American Legion Post 186
dedicates flags from late veterans into the Post’s Avenue of Flags.
While families still own the dedicated flags, they are stored at the American Legion flag building
and are posted in Riverside Cemetery on each Memorial Day, weather permitting.
As of this year, there are 517 veterans represented in the Avenue of Flags, and that number
grows each year.

A-W boys golf team drops a pair of close matches

For the second time this season, the Akron-Westfield boys golf team lost a match by less than five shots.  The Westerners fell to MMCRU 165-161 in conference dual at Marcus Golf Club on April 22.
