Westerners win third straight game

The Akron-Westfield football team may have not have started the season like they hoped, but the finish could not have been any better.

The Westerners beat Lawton-Bronson 28-21 on Oct. 25 to win their third straight game, and finish the season with a 3-6 record.

School Board discusses student performance, new curriculum, and security upgrades

The Akron-Westfield School Board held their regular monthly meeting on Oct. 14. The following individuals were present: Board Members Hawkins, Martinsen, Mathistad, Tucker, Schoenfelder, Jordt, and Von Hagel;  Administrators Derek Briggs, Michelle Henrich, and Jeremy Mills; and Elizabeth Robbins.

Westfield creates dedicated account to cover local share of flood damage

The Westfield City Council began their October meeting by approving this meeting’s agenda and the minutes from September’s meeting. Next, Council members reviewed bills that needed to be paid.

Much of the meeting was focused on FEMA funding and flood damage repairs.

Plymouth County Auditor’s Office open for in-person absentee voting

The Plymouth County Auditor’s Office will be open for voting an absentee ballot in-person for the General Election, on Saturday, November 2nd from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The Auditor’s office is located on the 2nd floor of the Plymouth County Courthouse.

Monster Mash Experience

The Akron Public Library hosted its highly anticipated annual event, the Monster Mash, on Oct. 26 from 4 to 6 p.m. This festive gathering showcased a variety of fun-filled activities for all ages. Attendees had the chance to participate in an exciting costume contest, where creative outfits were celebrated with prizes. The event welcomed 59 attendees.

A-W School is drug free

The Akron-Westfield school participated in the nationwide week-long celebration of Red Ribbon Week, October 21- 25, to help spread awareness of the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse.

Boie, Schram lead A-W Jr. High cross country

Saelah Boie has been solid all season long for the A-W junior high cross country team and the trend continued in the War Eagle Conference meet in Marcus on Oct. 17.
Boie and Teygan Schram nearly captured a pair of top-ten finishes as Boie placed fourth with a personal best time of 14:05.23 and Schram finished 11th.
