The A-W cross country teams competed in the War Eagle Conference meet at the Marcus Golf Club on Oct. 17, and the boys came away with a fourth place finish.
The Akron-Westfield football team may not have have had the start to the season they wanted, but they sure had a finish to be proud of. The Westerners beat South O’Brien 28-17 in the final game of the regular season Oct. 18 to end the season on a two-game winning streak.
Westerners finish 2nd in conference, advance in state tournament

It’s all about peaking at the right time of the season when it comes to winning a championship. If winning 14 matches in a row qualifies as peaking, then it’s safe to say the Akron-Westfield volleyball team may be on the verge of something very special.
The United Nations officially designated the month of October as the International Month of Mental Health to increase awareness about mental health issues and promote a better understanding of mental illnesses. This initiative seeks to encourage individuals who are grappling with mental health challenges to seek the support and assistance they need.
The Akron Care Center Board began their October meeting by discussing the Care Center’s annual audit. Williams & Company, P.C., Certified Public Accountants conducted the audit for the year ended June 30, 2024.
Pick Supply, LLC, is an exciting new addition to our town. The company was founded by Alex and Mallory Pick, who established their business on August 8, operating right out of their home in Akron. Pick Supply specializes in providing locally made companion animal feed products in the Siouxland Area.
The Akron City Council began their monthly meeting by approving the agenda. The Council also approved minutes from their Sept. 17 meeting, the Sept. 2024 Clerk’s Report, and past Park Board Meeting minutes.
